Organisation and Accessories

When it comes to keeping your kitchen organised, it is advisable to think carefully about what you want to do in your kitchen and where.

Different options for designated zones might include:

Cooking area | Preparation area | Cleaning | Food storage | Tea/Coffee, Breakfast and on bench appliances

Here are some tips on working out how these different zones should be addressed.

Cooking Area

There are several things to keep in mind when setting out your potential cooking zone. You will need to keep all items used in this process with-in an arms reach if possible. This may include pots, pans and baking dishes. Options for this are some deep draws close to your cook top and oven which make it easy for getting items in and out. These can also be fitted with lid holder and dividers to keep everything in position.

Other things to consider when designing this space is having your spices, oils and sauces close buy. These can be allowed for with different systems either in pull-out units and drawers under bench or in over head units close by.

Preparation Area

When you are looking at setting out a preparation area there are essentially four things you will want to consider positioning around you. These things will include having a considerable amount of bench space, having a waste bin somewhere close by, accessibility to the sink for washing and having your cutlery tray in the general vicinity.

Cleaning

Keeping your kitchen clean is of great importance to maintain a hygienic food prep area. Generally cleaning product storage would be in or around the sink cabinet as the sink plays a role in this process. Pull-out baskets and shelving can be fitted to make it easier to keep this area organised.

Food Storage

Food storage can be easy if you have the room for a suitable sized pantry or corner pantry unit. If space is an issue then there are different systems to help utilise the area you do have. These can include space towers which have several internal drawers in a full height unit and corner swing units which utilise space or under bench corner set-ups.

Tea/Coffee, Breakfast and on Bench Appliances

Every kitchen includes a toaster and kettle and in a lot of cases these days, a coffee maker. If you would prefer to have these items hidden away out of sight then a roller shutter or bi-fold door unit would be a good option and would alleviate the need to put these items away in cupboards. These systems can also be ideal for other appliances such as electric woks, slow cookers and sandwich toasters.
